The "Hidden
Hunger"
Crops, pastures, trees and livestock often have a "hidden
hunger" for nutrients. Plants and animals can suffer from
this "hidden hunger" without showing specific nutrient
deficiency symptoms. By the time symptoms are evident, the
plant or animal will already be experiencing a yield or
productivity reduction, resulting in loss of profit to you
the producer.
The Importance of Micronutrients
For maximum yield of crops and improved vigour of pastures, N.P.K., the macronutrients are necessary. Just as important are the micronutrients (trace elements) that have been grossly neglected in the past. Nowadays a better understanding and numerous field experiences proves the importance of the micronutrients in balanced proportions in the soil.
Plant
Nutrient Deficiencies
If a plant does not obtain sufficient nutrients for
sustained growth, it may exhibit symptoms of deficiency
such as poor growth, lack of vigour or develop an abnormal
appearance. These symptoms are most apparent on the leaves,
however other parts of the plant e.g. the stems, fruit and
roots may also shown signs. Being able to recognise the
symptoms of deficiency in plants is the first step to
correcting soil nutrient imbalances.
